Hoovydundy is a RED Heavy TF2 Monster, created by YouTube user Pree Spunky. It is the titular main antagonist of the Youtube series of the same name.

Unlike most Freaks, it doesn't possess any designated theme.

Appearance[]

Although no video has yet been released that completely shows its full form, recognizable traits seem to be a disfigured face, apparently broken fingers, an increased body size, and multiple Spy knives embedded in its back. It has no cosmetic items.

Involvement[]

EDITOR'S NOTE: In this instance, any mention of BLU or RED mercenaries is in reference to a specific character in the Hoovydundy series, not TF2 mercenaries in general.

Not much is known about Hoovydundy's origins, but what is currently understood by in-universe characters is that it came from a map where RED and BLU both suffered complete team wipes due to respawn failure. It's creation does seem to involve a Spy, judging from the many knives in its back. Based on its aggression towards Friendly killers, it may have had a friend killed or been a Friendly itself. Hoovydundy appears whenever a Friendly, is intentionally killed regardless of team, and goes after the entire team if they support the murder of the Friendly. Although, in the case of the series, it was already there before the Friendly RED Scout was killed.

Despite this, it does seem to spare those that did not support the Friendly's murder, as it almost choked BLU Spy to death but decided to spare him at the last second. When BLU Spy saw RED Scout dropping his weapons, signalizing his surrender, he was the only one who put his revolver away and told RED Scout to walk away unlike the rest of his team, who had all looked ready to kill the enemy Scout on the spot for insulting their Sniper. Only when BLU Spy shot it in the head in an attempt to save BLU Heavy and BLU Medic did Hoovydundy go after him. Notably, even though the killed Friendly was the cause of Hoovydundy's actions, he is still prevented from respawning like those still alive, which may emphasize Hoovydundy's disruptive aura that he seemingly cannot control.

Personality & Behavior[]

Hoovydundy can be described as brutality incarnate. Its favorite killing method is to violently tear its victims apart and then hang their remains from the ceiling using the ropes it can create. It has only once so far deviated from this with BLU Scout, who managed to injure it. At that point, it stabbed multiple knives into BLU Scout's body, tore off his right leg, and contorted his arms using ropes, leaving him to bleed out in a chair. It often slowly walks when chasing down the victim.

When passive, Hoovydundy stands still with its broken hands twitching. Nothing else can really be said about it as of now. However, the monster is capable of speech, according to BLU Scout. It told him that as long as it lived, their respawn machines would be negated. In BLU Scout's own words, they were 'just like everyone else now.' More importantly, in that scene, it told him its one known fatal weakness.

Powers and Abilities[]

Hoovydundy's most notable ability seems to be emitting a bright red light that spans a considerable radius that can disappear and appear at any time as it did not emit that red light when the BLU sniper saw it, sometimes even transforming into said light as a means of teleportation. Extremely durable, Hoovydundy has taken both a scattergun blast and a revolver shot directly to the face with no visible injuries, though it was stunned for a short duration afterwards. Knives seem to have no effect, as it is able to absorb them into its skin after a few seconds, not including the ones in its back.

Passively, it appears to affect both basic electrical devices and respawn machines, blowing out the power grid when it appears, therefore preventing the respawn of its victims. However, this does not seem to affect Engineer's Sentry, Dispenser or the Teleporter. Also of note are its abilities to both change its size, only using this so far to tower over the BLU Heavy and cause small tremors, having done this to break the bridge at 2Fort.

Weaknesses[]

  • While shooting Hoovydundy does no visible damage, it does seem to stun it for a few seconds, allowing a victim to escape.
  • Its slow walking allows victims to escape if it doesn't react quick enough.
  • While it can teleport, it seems to only be in straight lines, or within its line of sight at the very least.
  • The knives embedded in its back seem to cause injury and temporary stunning if removed, though the knife itself seems unusable by a normal person, as it burned BLU Spy's hand when he tried to pick it up.
    • Removing all the knives in its back, according to both BLU Scout and Hoovydundy itself, is the only viable way to kill it, although removing any of the knives results in Hoovydundy becoming even more aggressive and gaining variety in its attacks which is likely it losing it's ability to hold back on it's attacks.

Trivia[]

  • Hoovydundy will kill its victims even if the person is accompanied by other people, as shown when it murdered both BLU Demoman and BLU Pyro at once, and when it attacked BLU Spy, BLU Heavy and BLU Medic at the bridge of 2Fort.
  • During a scene in Part 2 of the series, when RED Engineer and RED Soldier witness a static red screen as a result of a malfunction in the monitor, a few cryptic scenes are shown briefly in succession: Hoovydundy positioning the lips on BLU Demoman's severed head into a smile, him mourning a deceased RED Medic with a severed smiling RED Scout head on the floor, his knife-riddled back with BLU Demoman's distorted laughter, another RED Scout's grinning corpse, a splotch of blood with an upside down picture of a Demoman and a Spy, and Hoovydundy crushing BLU Pyro's severed head.
    • These cryptic scenes have become fodder for a few theories, the one most supported by Pree Spunky himself being that Hoovydundy was once a regular RED Heavy with a friendly disposition, who only wanted to spread happiness to both his teammates and the other team, only to be repeatedly tortured, abused and killed by the enemy team, culminating in them eventually hanging the remains of RED Heavy's friends from ropes. The disaster resulted in the destruction of RED's respawn machines, preventing the RED Heavy's friends from ever respawning again. Wracked with grief and rage, he was transformed into a Freak in the process.

      Hoovydundy Part 3

  • BLU Engineer's mention of a team that never respawned and the Heavy that reportedly went missing further bolsters this theory, as it is not only likely but heavily implied that Hoovydundy is said Heavy.
  • The official trailer for Hoovydundy Part 3 by Pree Spunky features scenes that add more to the lore, such as a horde of dead bodies on the floor which features RED mercenaries, implying even they aren't safe from Hoovydundy's wrath for unexplained reasons, a nervous RED Heavy with unusual eyes that may have been Hoovydundy prior to becoming a Freak, and a new, yet unnamed one-armed RED Scout Freak that seems to exhibit similar traits to Hoovydundy.
    • That RED Scout appears to be the same RED Scout that appeared in Part One, as he has the same cosmetics as the one seen in Part One.
    • It also shows Hoovydundy with all but two of the knives in its back removed, showcasing its powers at their absolute peak.
